You'd think after watching a show entitled; "British Comedy Awards 2006" i'd be sitting here with a smile upon my face, maybe even still giggling at something that was said on the show. Perhaps i'd even by typing up a bit of it to show you guys that didn't see it. Do you know what? I'm not. I'm not at all. My mood has spiralled downwards rapidly since I picked up the remote and turned onto this programme.
Hence this entry, aptly named; "The Extremely Articulate Rant About How Shit British Comedy Seems To Have Become Recently."
Firstly, and by jove most importantly, i'd like to direct your attention to the winner of the Best Comedy Stage Tour award. The answer? I'll give you a clue. It's one fat guy and one skinny guy who have told the same jokes for a few years now that for some reason people still laugh at. You got it! Little Britain! Erm.. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU FANS OF LITTLE BRITAIN? Somebody show me what is funny about this programme because I actually can not for the life of me understand how people can laugh at the same jokes.
It's not even like there's that much variety in the same jokes. (As in the 'Numberwang' sketch on That Mitchell And Webb Look, which changed enough every week to still be funny.) It's the same; "Want that one." "Computer says no." and "Eh, eh, eehhhh!" That was there last week. IT'S GETTING OLD. It wasn't that funny in the first episode and it sure as hell isn't funny now.
Another reason this pisses me off is because it won over The Mighty Boosh and That Mitchell And Webb Look. Two very funny shows that are far better than Little Britain can ever hope to be. Boosh and Mitch And Webb are two breaths of fresh air that people who think that the comedy genre of; "Let's make fun of what people are like." Is getting a little worn out. They're surrealistic, thought provoking and absolutely hysterical and deserve to have more recognition than a fat bloke in PVC and a thin bloke dressed as a woman. (Talking about David Walliams there, not Noel Fielding.)
Another thing wrong with British comedy, is that we seem to have run out of comedians. For example, Chris Tarrant won the award for outstanding contribution to comedy. Erm.. What? Chris Tarrant? Just shove some random names into a hat and pick the first one that fell out did you? Silly me, I seem to have forgotten that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was the funniest thing since the Dead Parrot, Monty Python Sketch. And who can forget Tizwaz? HILARIOUS SHOW I think not at all ever. What about Sean Locke? Rich Hall? Jo Brand? Bill Bailey? Jimmy Carr? Alan Davies? STEPHEN FRY FOR FUCKS SAKE. (And no, I did not just name all of the awesome people from QI even though that is very awesome and should've been mentioned but it wasn't shame on you ITV.)
My other biggest peeve of this show, besides Little Fucking Britain beating The Mighty Boosh, besides Stephen Fry not being mentioned at all, and besides Ant and Dec winning the viewers choice award even though it should've been That Mitchell And Webb Look is that that fucking ignorant, unfunny, crawly guy who played Borat won the Ronnie Barker award. WHAT. THE. FUCK.
I don't honestly know what to say. I'm very very sorry Ronnie Barker that your name has been defaced in such a shameless way for what has been snidely dubbed as British "comedy".
Borat is shit.
Little Britain is shit.
CATHERINE TATE is shit.
Russell Brand is shit.
British comedy is, for the most part, SHIT. That's a shame.
On the other hand, a big congratulations to Mitch and Webb for winning the Best Comedy Television Show for Peep Show. Well deserved! Frankly, they deserved the other awards they were up for as well. Well done to The Mighty Boosh for getting a nomination (and bothering to go, I liked Mike's hat, it was pretty!)
GAH!
