Last Friday Jamie, Nicola, Kim, Robyn and I went to De Montfort Hall to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I saw it about 2 years ago with my mom and dad, but I was looking forwards to seeing it again because it's brilliant at the theatre. This year it had an all star cast - in some of the previous shows the narrater was Nigel Planer (Jeez. I wish!) But he's off doing his Broadway play now so we had some guy from Coronation Street. I wouldn't know him as I don't watch Coronation Street - but he played a bad guy and I think his storyline had something to do with a crowbar? I dunno. Everyone boo'd whenever he came on because of this - but it was only for a laugh and he totally loved us for it.
Anyway, i'm getting ahead of myself. Janet was played by Susanne Shaw, the blonde one from that rejectile pop band Hear'Say. The singing wasn't as bad as you'd think, but it was still pretty heinous. Especially the high notes! Frank'n'Furter was played by some guy on Holby City (who is NOT Adrian Edmondson so I don't know who he is!)
Kim and Nix dressed up like Magenta, Jamie dressed up like Eddie (IE he put on a leather jacket.) whilst Robyn and I rented some funky wigs and outlandish clothes. It was fun, not too sure about seeing many fat bums strolling casually around but there's a downside to everything, I guess. First thing we did was to go and order some drinks for the interval because otherwise it's impossible to get near to the bar.
When the doors finally opened we found our seats and then I routed around for where we would be sitting for Bonzo Dog (same place, you see.) We had quite a good view of the stage but you weren't allowed flash photography so no pictures of that. You should've seen the people that were there, I loved them all. (Apart from two of my teachers from my old school who we hid from - luckily they weren't in costume!!) There was a kid who looked like Hurley from Lost in a big fake beard, it was VERY strange!
After a while the lights dimmed and the show began. Fabulous. Fabulous it was indeed. "Janet" cracked up at all the heckling at one point and couldn't sing the introduction to one of the songs. Awesome. The narrator got boo'd everytime he came on apart from towards the end when me and my friends started cheering loudly. He managed to put up with the shouting out really well. Frank'n'Furter was AMAZING. The guy who played him looked like Lewis and was absolutely brilliant. Didn't crack up once unlike the other actors who could barely keep a straight face.
During the interval I noticed that the slip of paper next to mine had "Zico" written on it so I spent the rest of the night looking for The Zico Chain haha, didn't see them though - it probably wasn't them!
It was a really great show though. I can't really write much more about it, simply because no words can do it justice. The songs are amazing, the dancing (especially The Time Warp, where everyone joined in regardless) is hysterical and I mean, come on, where else can you go where dressing normal is seen as weird?!
Go. See. This. Show.
