Wow, Foo Fighters #2 sure was an experience! This is gonna take me ages to write up.. I'm in pain!
On Friday night me, Jamie, Alison and Richard went to TGI Friday's =) it was nice, and we got sat next to this picture of Adam West and Burt Ward (AKA the 60's Batman and Robin) that had us in stitches for the whole evening. (It was because we'd actually gone and bought the 1966 Batman film earlier in the day and it's hilarious.)
Then whilst we were waiting for our meal this guy came up to us and was like "Hey! You might have seen me on TV!" (er.. no) "I'm a magician!" Then he proceeded to do some pretty cool card tricks, but it kind of dragged. Hm.. Anyway.
On Saturday morning we got up early and drove down to Stanmore, like last time, and got the tube to Bond Street. At first me and Jamie were just gonna go straight to Hyde Park and queue so we could get close to the front =) but then we decided against that and decided to go to Camden for a bit instead. So we got off at Bond Street so we could catch the Central line along to Tottenham Court Road and up to Camden, and Alison and Richard stayed on the Jubilee line to go goodness knows where.
When me and Jamie got off at Tottenham Court Road we discovered that there was no way up the Northern line from there as the entire track between Kennington and Euston was closed for maintenance. So we had to get back onto the Central line train and go along a bit further to Bank, then we went up to Camden from there.
The first thing I noticed when we walked into Camden was a guy with a mohawk holding a sign that said "Doc Martins! Ask this guy!" So I went over to him and said "I want some Doc Martins!" And he took me and Jamie to this cool little Doc Martins shop (apparently the first in the world to sell them) and I tried on some funky red ones, but I didn't buy them! We got talking to the assistant and he told us how Glen Matlock had been in there a few days earlier (Omg. Omg. Omg.) And how once, last year, Green Day came in there and spent £6,500!! (OMG. OMG. OMG.) It was cool!!
After staying in Camden for a bit and looking round (and buying matching bracelets =) me and Jamie are soo sad.) We went back to the tube and got the train to Euston, then took the Victoria line down to Hyde Park Corner. We wandered around for a bit after we got off the tube, not really sure where Hyde Park was, but then we noticed all the signs and it was like.. Duh. So we got into Hyde Park and followed the crowds to the queues (which we got right near the front of because everyone got told to move up.) Then after waiting in there for ages we got in and walked over to the stage.
Considering the doors opened at 2:00 and we had gotten there at 1:00... We managed to get on the second row of the non-paying pit, and had a fucking good view of the stage!! So we all stood around for a while, and then I decided that I wasn't going to stand in the blazing sun for two hours, and I sat down - then 5 minutes later pretty much everyone around me sat down as well, hehe. I'm such a trend setter! We ended up making friends with the girls next to us and the big scary guys behind us!
Then after waiting for ages, Juliette and the Licks finally came on! It was cool, because it was Juliette Lewis, but after they played 'You're Speaking My Language' it became obvious that no one knew any of their other songs and people soon became bored. It was kinda funny when someone in the paying pit threw a bottle and it almost hit the guitarist. Usually I don't like stuff like that, but bottles were being thrown everywhere so it was only a matter of time before one got thrown on stage! Juliette and the Licks ended up being on for ages (at least that's what it felt like) and the people around us got really restless and eventually just started shouting things like "YOU'VE GOT NO TITS!" and "I LOVE MARMITE!" It was very funny!
When they went off, everyone stood around discussing who the next band would be, (obviously Angels And Airwaves.) It didn't take long for their set to be sorted and they came on to silence until Tom Delonge got shown on the big screen and then there were deafening screams and one "OMG HE'S SO HOT!" From the girls next to us. Uh.. If you like. I didn't really like anything that i'd heard of Angels And Airwaves but I have to admit, they were pretty good. They played a very short, slow version of 'Down' (which I liked because I knew the words!) Then Tom Delonge started talking about the 9/11 stuff and how loads of people had died, and then how now his brother and our brothers and sisters had been sent to Iraq and even more people had died. He got us to sing along with him, and even though he told us what to sing, pretty much everyone around us was just mumbling it until it got to the word 'distraction' which is the only one people really heard. It was like this.
Tom: Okay, I want you to sing along with me.
Us: Woo.
Tom: EEEYOOOORRRR BEYUUUUURRR DISTRACTION!
Us:... Erm.. Eeeyiuurirrrr beuyrurr DISTRACTION!!
It was very funny.
Towards the end of Angels and Airwaves there was a huge surge of people and we would've ended up pinned to the people in front if the big scary guys behind us hadn't been holding them back. Thanks big scary guys =). The next band was gonna be Queens Of The Stone Age, and they took FOREVER to come onstage. So everyone was getting restless and then the big scary guys got overwhelmed and came shooting towards me and Jamie. Then they parted so that they wouldn't hit us, but then everyone behind them came through and we ended up getting pinned anyway! It was lucky i'd picked up my bag!
Finally Queens Of The Stone Age came on (to shouts of "HURRY THE FUCK UP!" and "GET ON WITH IT!" - then everyone went quiet when we saw Josh Homme's hair! It's all black! It looks nice..) with 'Songs For The Deaf' and it went MAD. Everyone was jumping around and singing along. Then they played 'First It Giveth' and everyone was REALLY jumping around and singing along. And then.. Oh my.. They played 'No One Knows' and all hell broke loose. There were people shoving and jumping and singing along, sweat and water and beer everywhere. It was fucking awesome! But then the lad behind me stuck his arms in the air whilst he was jumping around and when he came down his elbow sharply met the back of my head. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. I stopped jumping immediately and grabbed my head. Jamie looked at me confused and I kind of explained what had happened and the women standing in front of us heard and signalled the security guards.
It was so weird, the crowd in front of us parted and all these people suddenly reached out and lifted me up and over the security barrier. It was like "Whoa, omg, what's going on?!" There was a lady who told me to walk around the barrier, but I refused to go until Jamie climbed out as well and then we walked around to get out from the pit and were told to go to the medical tent ('Cause I was clutching my head! It really hurt!) So we made our way to the medical tent and I was asked loads of questions by this guy who then gave me an ice pack. (Even though it was a rubber glove with ice in it because they were running low on ice packs.) And I had to sit still for a while (I could still hear Queens Of The Stone Age though =)) then my neck started to hurt and they got all worried and sent for a Doctor ('cause they said if he couldn't assess me properly i'd have to be taken to hospital, nuuu! Motorhead!!) whilst they put an oxygen mask on me O_o something about trying to stop me from getting dizzy and stuff.. Whatever, it was freaking me out!! I was like "Whoa, hold on! I'm not having trouble breathing!" Then about 3 people took my pulse and kept asking if i'd fallen on the floor (my response was: "No, I couldn't, there were too many people around me!") Then the doctor guy came over and he checked my pulse (-_-) and felt around my neck and made me follow his fingers with my eyes etc. Then he decided I was okay to go back and watch the rest of the gig as long as I didn't go into the pit, and he made me take some aspirin and gave me a booklet about head injuries. They were all really nice and funny so kudos to them =).
Then when we left the medical tent we found Alison and Richard in the crowd near the back and sat down with them to watch Motorhead. Lemmy. Lemmy. Lemmy. My head hurt like hell, but I still managed to get some cool pictures! Motorhead were awesome! Although, i'm glad I wasn't where I was at the start for them! I'd have been killed! They played 'Killed By Death' =) which I was happy about, hehe.
Then when Motorhead had done we sat around waiting for The Foo's, when we noticed these lads behind us were attempting to make a giant paper cup tower! It was really funny. They managed to get it really tall, but then it wouldn't stand up by itself so some guy climbed on this other guys shoulders and held it up whilst they added more cups. Everyone around us got so into it! We cheered when they managed to add more cups and 'aww'd' when some cups fell out! Then suddenly we noticed something was happening on stage and FOO FIGHTERS came on.
They played 'In Your Honor' first, of course. Best Of You, Learn To Fly etc soon followed. Then me and Jamie noticed that there was a huge space in front of us, so we walked through it to get closer to the stage. Then Jamie blinked and looked round and was like "Hey it's that guy from The Friday Night Project and Bring Back The A Team!" And it was! It was Justin Lee Collins!! So we ran over and said hey, and got a picture with him =).
We went and stood right near this massive JIB that kept swinging round towards us, so we might've gotten on camera - who knows? We ended up making this huge thing out of Dave Grohl being like Batman (His superhero name: Davegrohl.. His alterego David Grohl!) with his sidekick HAWK (Taylor Hawkins) who was a hillbilly, and then the other two members of the band were the Irish policeman and the commisioner! It was funny!
Then Lemmy came on and played a song with them, that was pretty cool. They played 'My Hero' which, as always, was beautiful!
Then Taylor came forwards and I was like "Woo! Cold Day In The Sun!" But he smiled and said "I wanna dedicate this one to Freddie Mercury!" It was like.. Huh? That's a bit random isn't it? But then the drums kicked up and it was 'We Will Rock You' by Queen and then the big screen showed the drums and I thought: "Wait a minute, that's not Dave on drums.. That's...OH MY GOD!" And then the big screen showed BRIAN MAY and I knew I was right.. QUEEN WERE ON STAGE! It was fucking amazing! I mean, wow, totally unexpected and fantastic!
The last song they played was 'Everlong' and it was even more beautiful and amazing than the studio version could ever be. Simply because it's slowed down and sounds quite haunting when all you hear is the slow guitar, Dave Grohl and 85,000 people singing along to it.
So it was a good day, even with my head injury!! My shoulders and neck ache so i'm not gonna write anymore!
