'Cause We Are The Champions Of The World
9:15 a.m. -- 2005-06-19

I'm speechless. I am utterly, utterly speechless. As well as amazed, inspired, sunburnt... Yesterday, along with Nicola, Robyn, Alex and 59996 other people I was at Milton Keynes National Bowl at the fan-fucking-tastic GREENDAY SHOW! WOOOO!

So, as usually what happens after i've been to a show that rocked the house, here is what happened from my point of view.

The start kinda sucked, because we were supposed to leave for Milton Keynes at 10, but everyone was really slow so we actually got on the way at about 10:45 - then we got to Milton Keynes at about 12:00. Considering the first band came on at 5:00 there were loads of people there already, and they (they being my mom, my sister and Marie) wasted loads of time that we could've spent getting to the front of the queue at the car, so I was pretty pissed off with them. But it was really weird 'cause these two guys walked by me and I was certain I recognised them..Then when we got in and they wasted even more time getting drinks, I was like "GET IN THE FUCKING PIT RIGHT NOW!" But FINALLY we did, and I knew I wouldn't be able to see when everyone stood up so I was really pissed off.

Then I rang Nicola and eventually she turned up so I went to find her, and she'd found Robyn so we all hung out in the pit. It's an outdoor arena if you didn't know, it's like a stage, then a little pit, then a little walkway for camera people, then a bigger pit, then there's a giant hill surrounding it which loads of people were sitting on.

After spending some time in the pit, me and Nix decided to go for a walk and then we found Alex!! He had an amazing view of the stage so we were trying to decide whether or not to stay with him or try and get a decent spot in the pit. We decided on the pit and we got almost three rows from the front so that was cool.

Then after ABSOLUTELY AGES Hard Fi came on, and they weren't very good. No offense to them or anything, but they've only really done one song that a like. (Much credit to them for playing it) I don't think anyone else in the pit really liked them either, everyone was getting really bored. Then after ages (well.. it seemed like ages) they went away and Taking Back Sunday's set was beginning to get set up. Then this huge guy came and stood in front of me, Nicola, Robyn and these girls we didn't know. And we were all like "EXCUSE ME!?" He claimed he was looking for his brother, so we yelled at him until he went away, how rude of him!

When Taking Back Sunday came on the crowd got really rowdy and I was getting pit-fighted, Nix was getting squashed and I think Robyn was getting a bit of both and I could see Nix was getting a bit hurt so I pulled them both out of the pit, hehe. We went to find Alex (I don't mean Alex Driver, btw) on the hill instead and WOW! We couldn't see anything from the pit but we could see it all from the hill! Plus, the camera kept going across our section of the crowd so me and Alex we were waving loads.

Then Robyn + Nix went to the toilet before Jimmy Eat World and Green Day came on, so me and Alex spent the rest of Taking Back Sundays set reading funny stuff about Green Day from the program, talking and waving at camera's. I only actually paid proper attention to TBS when they did A Decade Under The Influence, that's a great song.

Then when TBS had gone off, me and Alex decided to see how many band shirts we could see. Most of them were American Idiot shirts, we saw a Nimrod shirt and a King For A Day shirt (omigosh, I wanted that shirt so badly!), RATM, Sex Pistols, Ramones, HIM, CKY, Audioslave, R.E.M, Guns n Roses and then this little kid walked by with a Pimp My Ride shirt on and me and Alex we just stitches.

Robyn and Nix FINALLY made it back from the toilets! Jimmy Eat World came on stage and we stood up to watch them because I absolutely love Jimmy Eat World, we'd been sitting down on the hill before because you had a great view either way. They shot straight into an amazing version of Pain, everyone was cheering because they rock, and it was so funny. The lead singer was adding extra words into the song. It went something like: "Hey, don't write yourself off yet FUCKING it's only in your head you feel let down and looked down on!" Everyone was pissing themselves.

Then they did Sweetness and you could tell who had heard the song but didn't know the words because it goes; "Are you listening? Whaooooah!" And the entire crowd was silent, then they all went "WHAAAOOOOOAAAAH!" It was insanely funny! I was hoping that they wouldn't do Hear You Me because it makes me cry, and luckily they didn't. They did Pain, The Authority Song, If You Don't - Don't, The Middle, Get It Faster and some other ones that we didn't know. They were really good! At the end of the set, they got it all quiet and they were like..."GREEEEEENDAAAAAAAAY!" And the entire place went MAD! It was AWESOME!!

Me and Nix went to find her dad, cause he said he'd buy us a drink, so when he'd gone to get us one we got talking to this guy with his son and they were telling us about how McFly were in the audience, and we were like "What?" then I realised... those guys i'd seen in the carpark - THEY WERE FROM MCFLY! EW! Then this little kid was like... 12 years old and his dad was like "Tell them what you said to McFly!" and this little kid apparently went up to McFly and was like "YOU'RE A GAY BAND!" I had to shake his hand, that kid rocked! Then we got a smirnoff ice and we went back to find Alex and Robyn.

After that, everyone had stood up because obviously, Green Day were on next. Me, Nix, Robyn and Alex were all discussing what songs they might and might not play. Then a huge cheer went round the arena because PINK DRUNKEN BUNNY HAD COME ONSTAGE! We think it may have been one of Jimmy Eat World inside that bunny outfit, but none of us were sure. But it was hilarious when we were all cheering the bunny and Robyn suddenly screamed "I WANT TO TOUCH THE BUNNY!" There was like a soundtrack playing in the background throughout the whole thing (obviously not when the bands were on) and all of a sudden, the first few notes of the YMCA blasted out. And it was hilarious to see 60000 punks and gothd all dancing to the YMCA. When the song finished everyone booed because we wanted to keep on dancing!!

But the next song on was Beastie Boys, and it was silent until the chorus when the whole place went "YOU GOTTA FIGHT! FOR YOUR RIGHT! TOO PAAAAAAAAAAAARTAY!" It was wicked!!

THEN!! BIG THEN!! WOOO! Ahem.. Then the theme from space came on (you know, that duuuuun duuuuuuuuuun duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn!) And everyone went mad! Then GREENDAY CAME ON STAGE! And everyone was cheering and screaming and clapping. Billie Joe came up to the microphone and went ... "EEEEEENNNNNGLLLLAAAAAANNNND!" So we all started screaming again! Then they went into American Idiot and everyone was singing along, it was amazing. Then just before the last verse, it went all quiet and he took up the microphone and screamed into "I want everybody to sing this next fucking bit so fucking loud that EVERY FUCKING RED NECK IN AMERICA CAN HEAR YOU!" And everyone went "YEAAAAH!" And it was very very very loud!

Then this rubber ring was thrown near me and Robyn so we picked it up and threw it at some guys head HA! It's not cool unless you throw something! The things that were being thrown around the pit were bizarre! There was a beach ball, a blown up globe, and blown up Donkey from Shrek, an Ernie balloon, a giant balloon made from bin liners, playing cards and loads of other stuff.

Me and Nix were like "Tre!" Then he came up on the big screen and we got this whole crowd to go "TREEEE COOOOOOL!" We love Tre Cool!! Then we noticed a camera was pointing at us, so we went mad and started dancing HA. Billie Joe stood up and was like "SAY HEEEEY-OOH!" and we did, then he was like "SAY HEEEEEEEY-AYE!" And we did that too! Then he was really quiet and he was like "Say heeey-oh!" and we did it and it was so much quieter than before and he was absolutely pissing himself laughing.

At the start of one of the songs, can't remember which now, everyone screamed "One, Two, ONETWOTHREEFOUR!" Billie Joe is amazing, he was running up and down the stage, and singing, and playing guitar and looking hot..Ahem..

He got the whole crowd going "heeeey-oh!" again, then he realised he could get us to say anything he wanted to. So this is how it went:

Billie Joe: SAY HEEEY-OH!
Us: HEEY-OH!
Billie Joe: SAY HEEY-AYE!
Us: HEEY-AYE!
Billie Joe: SAY OOOOOOH!
Us: OOOOOH!
Billie Joe: SAY AIIIIIE!
Us: AIIIIIIE!
Billie Joe: SAY AAAAAH!
Us: AAAAAH!
Billie Joe: Aaaaaaaah!
Us: Aaaaaaaaaaah!
Billie Joe: Aaaaaaah! *voice getting very lust filled*
Us: A..aaa..h?
Billie Joe: OooOoooh..

Then, the big screen which had been showing his face, slowly moved down to reveal his hand was down his pants!! HA! It was very sexy! Everyone was like "WOOOOOOOOOOO!" We wondered why his voice was getting lower and lustier, hehe.

Then he took up the mic and was like "This next song, is a big FUCK YOU to George .W. BUSH!" And everyone cheered wildly, and it was Holiday, so everyone was singing along and dancing. .. Well, we were dancing anyway! It was so cool, it was like:

Billie Joe: Can I get another amen?
Us: AMEN!

Then when it got to the speaking sort of part of the song, he had this funky microphone which made it sound like he was speaking through a loud speaker. Everyone was screaming the bits that Tre + Mike do haha. Then all this fire appeared on stage and it was amazing!

Billie Joe was pitting the crowd against each other, whatever way he pointed the crowd in that direction had to cheer as loud as they could and everyone was trying to beat everyone else. It was awesome!

Billie Joe suddenly ran off stage, and then came back with a HUGE super soaker and just absolutely drenched the crowd! It was so funny, then he got this little kid from the pit up on stage and got him to do it instead, it was really sweet. Then they got up a drummer, bassist and guitarist from the crowd (just random people) and got them to play a song with them. Tre Cool was getting pissed off with the drummer kid though, because he wanted him to play this simple drum beat and this guy kept doing rim shots and stuff. At the end of that song, Billie Joe turned to the kid that had his guitar and went; "Oh, by the way, you can keep that!" And everyone went mad, it was so nice of him!

BJ started introducing everyone on stage, like Jason White, the guitarist, Mike Dirnt (everyone screamed wildly) the bassist, Tre Cool (everyone screamed even louder) the drummer, and then it went silent and he turned to us and screamed into the microphone. "And my name.. IS GEORGE W. BUSH!" and everyone just booed as loud as they could, he looked really pleased, so then he screamed "Not really!! MY NAME IS ASSHOLE!" Everyone cheered wildly.

Then it was so sweet, omigosh, they all ran off stage and then came back with funky hats on. Billie Joe had a crown, Tre Cool had this sexy pink hat which I want omigosh! Jason White had a pirates hat so he got an extra cheer from me and Nix, but Mike didn't have a hat?! But anyway, everyone was screaming "KING FOR A DAY! KING FOR A DAY!" So he turned round and went "THIS IS KING FOR A DAY!!!!!!" And everyone was singing along 'cause that's a great song! Then all of a sudden they shot into a version of 'Shout!' and everyone was jumping up and down and screaming shout with him. Then he was like "And get a little bit quieter now, a little bit quieter now, a little bit quieter now!" and he was getting quieter and quieter and slowly dropping to the floor, as was Mike Dirnt, I think Tre went off backwards from his drums hehe! Then Jason White brought out this HUGE robe and put it over Billie Joe when he was lying down. Then he stood back up and went back into King For A Day. IT WAS GREAT!

They did Boulevarde of Broken Dreams and everyone was about crying, as when they did Wake Me Up When September Ends, Kudos to Robyn's mom for letting me hold up her lighter when it was on!

I can't remember rightly the order of the songs, but these are the songs they did:

American Idiot, Welcome To Paradise, Longview, Basket Case, She, Hitchin' A Ride, King For A Day, Minority (that was cool, everyone was screaming the chorus), Jesus Of Suburbia, City Of The Damned, I Don't Care, Dearly Beloved, Tales Of Another Broken Home, Holiday, Boulevarde of Broken Dreams, Are We The Waiting, Shout...

And then they ran off stage, and everyone was chanting "GREENDAY GREENDAY GREENDAY!" So after about 5 minutes they ran back on, and we were all cheering. Then the lights went off, and they slowly went into an absolutely amazing version of 'We Are The Champions' by Queen. I can't describe it, it was so inspiring - he stopped on the first chorus and all you could hear was 60 000 people singing at the top of their voices "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS MY FRIENDS, AND WE'LL KEEP ON FIGHTING TIL THE END!" It was just... Wow... We all got really emotional and everyone was just totally over-whelmed, even Billie Joe up on stage was almost in tears.

Then what happened at the Linkin Park concert happened again. I suddenly thought "Oh shit! Good Riddence!" so I started screaming at them to play it, and so did the girls next to me. Then the lights dimmed and he started playing it. The entire pit had their arms round each other. Me, Nix + Robyn had our arms around each other and everyone was swaying slowly to it. It was fucking amazing. It was just incredible. Billie Joe was almost crying again, everyone else was almost crying. It was just...wow.

Then he screamed "YOU GUYS FUCKING ROCK!" Before running off stage, and it was just amazing. Then on the way out I found a random shoe and me and Nix called it Calvin the Green Day shoe, and I threw it away. T'was funny.

I must go see Green Day again. It was the most amazing show I have ever been to in my entire life. AND I'M SO SUNBURNT AND I DON'T CARE!
